Comedian George Carlin, a counter-culture hero famed for his routines about drugs and dirty words, died of heart failure at a Los Angeles-area hospital on Sunday, a spokesman said. He was 71.

Carlin did have a history of heart problems as he noted in his "competition" with Richard Pryor:

I lead Richard Pryor in heart attacks two to one...

However, Richard leads me one to nothing in burning yourself up.

You see, first Richard had a heart attack, then I had a heart attack. Then Richard burned himself up and I said, "Fuck that - I'm having another heart attack!!!"
