Global Cooling

It seems that mean global temperatures have cooled radically in the past year:via Say Anything

Over the past year, anecdotal evidence for a cooling planet has exploded. China has its coldest winter in 100 years. Baghdad sees its first snow in all recorded history. North America has the most snowcover in 50 years, with places like Wisconsin the highest since record-keeping began. Record levels of Antarctic sea ice, record cold in Minnesota, Texas, Florida, Mexico, Australia, Iran, Greece, South Africa, Greenland, Argentina, Chile -- the list goes on and on.

No more than anecdotal evidence, to be sure. But now, that evidence has been supplanted by hard scientific fact. All four major global temperature tracking outlets (Hadley, NASA's GISS, UAH, RSS) have released updated data. All show that over the past year, global temperatures have dropped precipitously.

This on top of the fact that for the past 7 years - mean global temperature has remained constant. Neither warming nor cooling.

Stopping the scourge of global warming. Yet another initiative successfully brought to you by the Bush Administration.

You're welcome...

Corzine Pleads Fiscal Sanity, Impeachment to Begin Monday

Good Lord! Hell must have frozen over! Corzine Seeks to Cut NJ Budget and Workforce...

TRENTON — Declaring that New Jersey had reached an irrevocable “turning point” because of years of bad fiscal habits, Gov. Jon S. Corzine proposed a budget on Tuesday that would reduce the state’s work force by 3,000 people, close three departments and prune expenses for services including colleges and hospitals.

If enacted as proposed, the overall state budget would shrink by $500 million to $33 billion, marking only the fifth time in the last 50 years that New Jersey would spend less money than it did the previous year. Assuming inflation this year at around 3 percent, as it has been since 2004, the cut would be equivalent to roughly $1.5 billion, or 4.4 percent of last year’s budget, in real terms.

OMFG! Jon Corzine is proposing a budget that Kid Various can actually support? This is way better than anything we proposed when we were in power!

He proposed cutting state aid to colleges and universities by $76 million, or 4 percent.

Yes!

Grants to towns? Down $190 million (about 10 percent).

Yes!

Hospitals? Less $144 million (14 percent).

Yes!

His plan would shut down the Departments of Personnel, Agriculture and Commerce, and trim jobs across the board, largely through buyouts.

Yes! Yes! OH GOD, YES!!!

Residents would face longer lines and shorter hours at motor vehicle registries, and limited hours at public parks.

OK no walk in the park - but we get to actually *shut down* State Departments? SOOO worth it!

The reaction from the spendthrift Dem majority was telling:

“Frankly, New Jersey has a government its people cannot afford,” a somber Governor Corzine told a stone-silent group of legislators, lobbyists and local officials in his annual budget address.

...In a 25-minute speech, the governor used some variation of the word "cut" at least 28 times and elicited applause just twice: when he entered the Assembly chamber, and when he left.
Governor Corzine delivering an explanation on fiscal sanity,
shortly before he was lynched by torch wielding Democratic legislators.

But labor unions, and their supporters, were furious.

“Clearly the governor’s attack on public employees — hard-working, nonpolitical state employees — as a way to balance this budget is wrong,” said Senator Bill Baroni, a Republican from Mercer County.

Oh, Billy - we know you're from LD-14 and you got a lot of public employees in your constituency - but let's not go overboard here!

It's that old Vulcan proverb: Only Nixon could go to China...

Huck on SNL

Regardless of anything else, you can;t say Huck's not a good sport:

God, Sarah Silverman is Hot

This is freaking funny:

Kimmel's response is pretty funny too:

Sadly - it's all a joke. Silverman and Kimmel are still together?

Good lord! Why are you still with this loser Sarah when you should be with The Kid???

Flux Capicitor... Fluxing.

Sweet! We could be getting visitors from the future this year!

Interestingly, Aref'eva and Volovich claim that the wormhole they believe the CERN experiment will open up will not provide us with the means to travel through time, or at least not back through time. Our end of the rift in time would be the day that the experiment is conducted -- and that is the farthest back anyone could travel using the wormhole. They talk about visitors from the future potentially coming through the wormhole to our era, but the linked article doesn't say whether we would have the ability to use the wormhole to move rapidly forward in time and then back again to this era.

2008 could be Year Zero for time travel! Those wacky russkies!

Energy Diplomacy

Breaking news today:

WASHINGTON - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Wednesday she will appoint a special envoy for energy issues to deal with the use of oil and gas for political means, particularly in Central Asia.

Good. Glad we're on that. 6 and half years after September 11.

Dammit!

They can have The Kid's Diet Pepsi when they pry it from his cold, dead fingers...

Researchers have found a correlation between drinking diet soda and metabolic syndrome — the collection of risk factors for cardiovascular disease and diabetes that include abdominal obesity, high cholesterol and blood glucose levels, and elevated blood pressure.

Please, Please, PLEASE....

Someone tell The Kid we managed to whack this asshole.

One day after a Pakistani newspaper reported al Qaeda propagandist Adam Gadahn may have been killed in the same airstrike that killed al Qaeda leader Abu Laith al Libi, the rumor remains unconfirmed.

Speculation over Gadahn's presence at the al Qaeda safe house in North Waziristan began on Jan. 29, the day of the airstrike. An unnamed US official denied Gadahn was killed in the strike. But on Feb. 7, The News reported, based on statements from Western sources, that Gadahn was killed in the airstrike.
